Still Here...
Notwithstanding attacks upon it from the radical right, the Constitution persists.
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
In other words, building community, promoting equal rights, enabling security, promoting social justice, looking to the future... The founders knew that America is about more than just ourselves. So does Governor Dean. On this Fourth of July, think about what kind of America should be left for future generations. There is no comparison between the socially progressive, fiscally responsible vision promoted by Dean and other Democrats and the deeply reactionary, debt-ridden exclusivity promoted by the Republican leadership. Americans are beginning to dream large again. This is a good thing and shame on those who would belittle it.
