A smart move by John Kerry
I haven't been impressed by many moves John Kerry has made; I've seen his campaign make some poor choices that have echoed missteps in the Gore-Lieberman 2000 campaign.
Today he might be turning that around. Say goodbye to
Chris 'The Squanderer' Lehane! Don't let the door hit ya on the way out.
Kerry's communications director leaves campaign amid shakeup rumors
Lehane was a key adviser and spokesman for the campaign, though he was not on the payroll. That move was planned later this fall. He resigned last week.
Removing bad advisors is a great beginning if Kerry is to correct his currently-losing course. I've been dismissive of Kerry in the past, often because of Lehane's history of weaselhood and his funny habit of being in campaigns which lose all momentum.
So it's possible that Kerry will have a much better chance now.
...though if the lame 'challenge' to debate Dean one-on-one is any sign of how things will be post-Lehane, I'm not sure Kerry's fortunes will ever improve. Dean was able to challenge Kerry directly in a 9-candidate debate several months ago; why can't Kerry do it with the other candidates around? Is he a bashful basher?
