Q3 Fundraising
Kos has snagged all of the Q3 fundraising numbers for us. Here's the scoop. [Raised in Q3 | Cash on Hand]
Dean $14.8 | $12.4
Kerry $4.0 | $7.8
Gephardt $3.8 | $5.9
Lieberman $3.6 | $4.1
Clark $3.5 | $3.4
Edwards $2.6 | $4.8
Kucinich $1.7 | $800K
Graham $1.4 | $800K
Braun $125K | $30K
Sharpton $121K | $24K
So, Dean tripled his nearest competitor in Q3 and has 1.5x the cash on hand. That's better than I thought he'd done. I do wish the other guys had raised more so the Dems would have a better total showing against the Republicans. But, I bet there are still plenty of people waiting until there's a 'winner' to start donating. The Washington Post provides
some more context about spending:
Three prominent contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination - Sens. John F. Kerry (Mass.) and John Edwards (N.C.) and Rep. Richard A. Gephardt (Mo.) - spent more than they raised during the last quarter, depleting crucial resources as the Jan. 19 Iowa caucus and the Jan. 27 New Hampshire primary fast approach.
And they got a Lieberman spokesperson on the record acknowledging reality:
Lieberman spokesman Jano Cabrera said, "This is one of those times when money actually reflects reality." The Democratic contest, he said, has come down to "Howard Dean versus 'fill in the blank.' "

Someone over in the Kos thread just pointed out that even if you take out Dean's Internet money (around $7M), he still outraised Kerry by about 50%.
Come on, Dem establishment, get with the damn program already. Set him free from the matching funds, sans guilt, and let Dean go after Bush.
