Edwards hitting his stride

Last night I listened to part of a live John Edwards campaign event on C-SPAN Radio.

He sounded the best I've ever heard him sound - confident, funny, and focusing his jabs very effectively against Bush (and not the other candidates).

I don't know if it's the psychological boost he got from the Des Moines Register's endorsement, or if he's just had more practice now, or what, but he's now only the second Dem to make me literally break out in a smile while I listened to him. I briefly even considered sending him some money, though I opted not to.

Dean's my guy for many, many more reasons, but I'd be happy to see Edwards head toward the top tier with Dean and Clark instead of the sad sacks Gephardt and Kerry. Having those three remain in the headlines for a while after the others drop out would please me.

I'll go out on a limb and say Edwards will take third in Iowa, not Kerry. I'd like him to take second, but I don't have much hope of that; at the very least, I do think he will exceed Kerry. (And I hope he does - nowadays listening to John Kerry just makes me tired.)
