STATEMENT FROM DEAN FOR AMERICA CAMPAIGN MANAGER JOE TRIPPI ON TODAY'S MLK EVENT IN DES MOINES, IOWA

Des Moines -- "The Iowa Commission on the Status of African Americans today sponored a memorial to honor the late Martin Luther King Jr. at the State Historical Building. Governor Dean attempted to attend the memorial to pay his respects to the late civil rights leader. Unfortunately, Governor Dean was met by a crush of reporters who were so disruptive that, out of respect for those attending, the Governor spoke to representatives of sponsoring organizations and explained that he felt it was best to leave rather than allow the media to disrupt their event."
