Ah, very nice: Greg Knauss has started a blog quoting politicians using the accursed cliché The American People. [found via John Scalzi, who's guest-blogging on the election at The Detroit News]

That construct has always been a peeve of mine; just substitute in 'people like me' every time you hear it.
