I am getting really, really sick of the comment spammers and am greatly looking forward to
Movabletype 3.0 which is apparently going to implement commenter registration.
On a more substantive note, I got a message from one of the organizers of one of my local grassroots/Meetup for Dean groups. They're expanding into a broader grassroots coalition for change, which I think is great. A draft charter has been distributed and I plan to take some time this evening to suggest ways in which they might make it a bit more welcoming to independents. There's a lot of language about "progressive" and "Democratic" values (which is all fine and good as far as I'm concerned -- at least in the current and foreseeable political climate), but I do think some slight wording changes would help foster a more inclusive atmosphere.
The challenge, though, is what to do about the short and long-term goals that they've set for themselves. Their specific action items are almost all about electing Democrats -- I think those are the right goals (again, given the current state of the Republican party), but worry about how to bring independents along. Any suggestions for what I might suggest to these folks?
