Dear CNN: I can understand reporting that the White House contacted you about a clip you just ran, but until you verify their claim, you might try reporting that 'the White House alleges that the tape was fake' (especially when it comes to this White House).

Then you're just, you know, reporting. And the White House is the only one that looks criminally stupid if they're wrong.
