Rwanda

It's the 10th anniversary of the Rwanda tragedy. NYCO has set up a weblog that will chronicle 100 Days of Rwanda. Sobering. I fear we have learned little from these events in the past 10 years.

My parents were living on the outskirts of Kigali when the genocide broke out. It took several weeks but they were ultimately rescued by Belgian troops and flown to Ziare and then on to Washington DC where they were debriefed by State Dept. officials.

Suffice to say that their first-hand account of what they witnessed makes the news reports seem rather tame. It was a truly horrific blood-letting that took place.
