I suspect this is what they were hoping for:
Before or during the rally, Kerry may e-mail the name of his choice to more than 1 million subscribers to his Web site, underscoring the importance the Internet has played in his campaign.

It would be the first time a candidate used the Internet for such a crucial announcement. A campaign aide said about 150,000 people had signed up since Kerry told reporters on Friday they would hear the news first.
