DFA + DCCC = ?

Maura in VA alerts us to the fact that DFA and the DCCC are joining forces for an event that will honor Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi. Long-time followers of the Dean campaign will recall that Pelosi was pretty nasty towards Dean back in the fall. Seems like this is their kiss-and-make-up moment, I guess. At least one person suggested that this might be a prelude to the DNC chairmanship and to watch for any Dean-Daschle events. A few months ago, I would have said that's not likely. At the time, I assumed that Dean would want something more policy-focused. However, given what he's been doing with DFA and his obvious and sustained commitment to party-building, it doesn't seem as out of the question now. We'll see.

This also reminds me how far behind I am on weblogging things I want to talk about. I tangled a bit with the official bloggers over at the DCCC a few weeks ago. The attitude there is deeply troubling -- insular, defensive, and unwilling to think creatively. I hope it changes and I hope the young guy who was posting so peevishly is not representative, although I'm not optimistic. I gave to Maura's fundraiser so she could go to the convention, but like many, I'm more inclined to donate to candidates directly than to funnel anything through the DCCC. They are a far distance from gaining my trust in their judgment (and you know we're all about valuing judgment here; hehe). Maybe next cycle.

What happened with Pelosi and Dean last fall? Must have been a bit before I started following the campaign.

She went after him for a comment he made about taking an evenhanded approach to the Israeli/Palestinian situation. Even went so far as to sign a letter criticizing him for it. A few details are here. As I recall, she was backing Gephardt at the time. I thought the whole thing was rather petty on her part.
