Two more months of this torture, and then either a sigh of relief (for at least a few months) or continued torture.
I'm not watching the Republican convention. I've read a few transcripts, but I just can't stomach the fear-mongering, the smears, and the lies in real time.
It's not clear to me that there's really a whole lot more interesting regarding the campaign that I'm going to be inclined to write about here, although I'm sure I'll probably get aggravated and feel the need to post rants now and then. These Republicans will lie, cheat, steal, and manipulate the pathetic excuse for a media in this country. The Democratic party still has not shown itself to be competent. John Kerry has convinced me that he has the
potential to be a better than decent President, although he hasn't convinced me that he
will be. And, he has a reputation as an excellent closer in campaigns.
So, given the Republican penchant for lies, the embarrassment that is our national media and smarter-than-thou pundit class, and Democratic party incompetence, I cling to the faint hope that Kerry himself has what it takes to pull this one out.
The only prediction I can make with any certainty is that I will be drinking, probably heavily, on November 2nd.
Other fun tidbits:
Elizabeth Edwards watches the Daily Show and reads DU. And according to National Journal convention updates, Edie Falco is in an ad for
Mothers Opposing Bush. "Join the MOB," she says.
Oh, and Joe Lockhart has
signed on with the Kerry campaign. I always kinda' liked him, so that's a plus in my book.
